The Anne Frank House opened on the 3rd of May 1960, it’s a writer’s and biographical museum, dedicated to the Jewish wartime diarist, Anne Frank, the museum was opened to preserve the hiding place and both Anne frank house and the next door number 265 house was purchased by the museum, the houses were built by Dirk van Delft in 1635.

During the world war 2, Anne Frank hid from the Nazi persecution, during the time in hiding Anne Frank wrote a diary about her life, the diary was publish in 1947, this is why the Foundation was setup to protect the building,at the time the building  who wanted to demolish the building block.

The Museum in 2013 and 2014 had over 1.2 million visitors per year, which made it the 3rd most visited museum in the Netherlands, only the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum had more visitors per year.
