Bloemenmarkt

The Bloemenmarkt is known as the world’s only floating flower market, it’s been open since 1860, the houseboats represent how supply boats would come to Amsterdam daily and sell products, the market has been one of the main supplies of flowers to the central of Amsterdam and its tourists.

The market is situated along the Singel Canal, near the Muntplein square, in the heart of Amsterdam. The Bloemenmarkt has a long history and is a popular destination for both locals and tourists. The market has around 15 florists, garden shops and souvenir gift shops.

The Bloemenmarkt has its roots in the 19th century when flower sellers would gather on houseboats to sell their products. Over time, it evolved into a proper flower market, still retaining its floating character. In addition to flowers and plants, the market also offers souvenirs, Dutch ceramics, and other related items.

While the Bloemenmarkt is a year-round attraction, it is especially vibrant during the spring when tulips are in full bloom. During the Christmas holiday in December, the flower market will sell green Christmas trees of all sorts and varieties.
