California State Profile

California is a state in the United States of America, it’s one of the largest states and the most economically successful states in the US of A and is one of the most popular places to visit in North America. California was admitted as the 31st state of the union on September 9, 1850.

The Spaniards gave the name Las Californias to the peninsula of Baja California and to Alta California, the region that became the present-day state of California. The name likely derived from the mythical island of California in the fictional story of Queen Calafia, as recorded in a 1510 work The Adventures of Esplandián by Garci Rodríguez de Montalvo.

California is bordered by Oregon to the north, Nevada and Arizona to the east, Mexico to the south and the Pacific Ocean to the west, the Pacific coastline stretches for 840 miles.
