Cardiff Castle is a medieval and Victorian Gothic Castle which was built on the remains of Roman and Norman ruins, positioned within the city center of Cardiff.

Roman castle
The Romans build a castle here due to its strategic location, which gave them easy access to the ocean.

Norman Keep & Maintain
Normans conquered the castle and then build a fortress keep, the first keep on the motte was build by Robert Fitzhamon, who was the Norman lord of Gloucester, the fortress keep was built out of wood, over the years fortifications and dwellings happened to improve the castle.

Bute Family
Over the years number of nobles has owned the castle however not until the castle was handed over to the Bute Own family, the fortress and the Bute fortune was passed down to his son John, by the 1860’s became the reputed richest guy in the world.

William Burges
From 1866 the 3rd Marquess hired the genius architect William Burges to convert the castle lodgings. within Gothic towers he created lavish and opulent interiors, wealthy with murals, stained glass, marble, gilding and problematic timber carvings. each room has its very own special subject matter, which includes Mediterranean gardens and Italian and Arabian decoration.
