Campania Name Origin

The name “Campania” is derived from the Latin word “campus,” which means “field” or “plain.” The region is named for the wide, fertile plains that stretch across much of its territory, which have been important for agriculture and other forms of economic activity for centuries.

According to legend, the name “Campania” was given to the region by the ancient Romans, who settled in the area and founded the city of Capua, which was located on the plain of the same name. The region was later conquered by various other groups, including the Greeks, the Normans, and the Bourbons, who all left their mark on the region’s culture and history.
