wordpress blog post image 9 How To Back Up Photos While Travelling

Loosing documents or precious photographs that have memories of you travelling can be devastating, specially if you love taking pictures and want to share them with your friends and family and end up returning home with no photographs because some one has stolen your camera bag with all your footage or the files got corrupted or damaged, if this does happen to you, its best to know that you have all your files backed up on to multiple devices however this might be a bit complicated, if you are abroad.
Here’s all the methods you might want to use, to help you on your adventure and easy your mind.

1

Backing up to a Laptop

Most Basic of theses methods is backing up photos to a laptop, If you travelling with a laptop, you can simply copy over photos from your phone to your laptop, and have all your memories nicely backed up safe, (kinda) unless someone steal your laptop, All you have to do is connect the USB cable that connects from your phone to your laptop, this is usually the charging cable, you use for your phone, if you have a smartphone, and connect it to your laptop, your laptop then will open up the software needed for you to access the phone and you just have to drag the photos over from your phone folder to your laptop.

Back up to Portable Drives
Having a portable hard drive can be really useful, they don’t take much space and are pretty simple to use, some portable hard-drives even have cloud storage or encrypted storage, portable drives can be anything from a simple USB to a portable hard drive, but I would highly recommend backing things up to both a USB and a Portable hard drive, the more devices you have your files back up to, the better it will be and the less chance of you loosing the precious memories.
I highly recommend the WD My Passport Ultra Portable External Hard Drive, just because it’s highly reliable and offers cloud storage as well as password protected/encrypted files, so you know your files and private documents are safe, just encase someone steals your device and they wouldn’t be able to access your files that you have stored.

If you want a cheaper solution i recommend SanDisk Ultra 64 GB USB and costs about £18, offers 64 GB worth of space and has encryption for your files, so no one can access them with out your permission/password.

Cloud Storage
May be the best way to keeping files safe, yes other methods are good however you still have to carry all the devices that keep your files safe, however cloud storage is a bit different, you back all your photographs and documents up, but this times, they are saved in the cloud, which basically means you have all your files saved on a server safe for you to access any time you like from any where as long as you have internet access. This is possibly the safest way of saving files without having to worries about the devices with you being lost or damaged and you loosing all your photographs.
Cloud storage is highly popular and many companies offer cloud storage servers.

Here are some cloud storage servers you might like:

Personal Cloud Storage

Me being a bit more technical I like having my own little cloud storage system at home, its only simple and easy to set up, Just like WD My Passport portable hard drive, I have the WD My Cloud Mirror storage set up at home.

What is it?

Basically cloud storage that can be accessed from any where in the world, and all the files can be transferred over without a hassle such as photographs, documents, and it can all be stored, having the mirror version just means if one hard drive fails, all I have to do is swap it with a new one and all my files are still backup and safe to use,I can access it, any time I want from any place in the world and they are all stored at home, and not in a server by another company, however you have to make sure its on at home.
