The Museo de Malaga opened to the public in December 2016, becoming the biggest museum in Andalusia and the fifth biggest in Spain, the Museum was formed by the Provincial Museum of Fine arts, was established in 1913 and the Provincial Archeological Museum was established in 1947.

The Museum de Malaga remains institutionally separated into two sections the Archeology Collection with over 15,000 pieces and the Fine Arts Collection with over 2,000 pieces. The museum has eight rooms three rooms are dedicated to the fine arts and five rooms are dedicated to the Archaeology collection.

The Museum of Malaga is located in an old customs building, the neo-classic building from the nineteenth century that was renovated and converted into the Museum of Malaga, the building area is 18,000 meters square.

How to get there

  • By foot: The Museum is located in the city’s historic centre, very close to the cathedral, the Alcazaba and the Roman Theatre.
  • By Bus: The closest stops to the museum are south of the ‘Paseo del Parque-Ayuntamiento’ and north of the ‘Plaza de la Merced’.
  • By Car: The closest public parking spaces are at the Plaza de la Marina and Alcazaba.
