Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya or abbreviated as MNAC, is housed in the  Palau Nacionalwas, which was built between 1926 and 1929 for the International Exposition of 1929 which it aimed to be the main building.

In 1934 the Palau Nacionalwas opened it’s doors to the public as Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya Museum, bringing different collections such as the Medieval and later on new Romanesque art was released to the public and due to its success, major renovation work was made which ended in 2004.

The museum holds over 250,00 works of art, which made it the largest and most important museum in Barcelona.

The Museum now holds the world’s largest collection of Roman frescoes fills, The Romanesque frescoes date from the vestibule of 29 foremost Romanesque church buildings within the Pyrenees.

The Museum also holds the most important collection of Catalan art work from the 19th to the 20th century. Numerous stages of art history modified in this time: neoclassicism, realism, modernism.

Romanesque Art

Opening Times

Winter opening times: October to April, Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 6pm; Sundays and public holidays, 10am to 3pm.

Summer opening times: May to September, Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 8pm; Sundays and public holidays, 10am to 3pm.

Mondays closed, except public holidays. Monday public holidays 2017: April 17th, June 5th, September 11th and September 25th.

Admission

Annual closing: January 1st, May 1st and December 25th.

General admission: €12

Combined ticket: general admission and audio guide: €14, can only be purchased online.
