St Fagans National Museum of History

St Fagans National Museum is known to be one of Europe’s main open air museums and the most famous Welsh open air museum and the most popular.

Located within the beautiful St Fagans castle, it offers traditional crafts, a walk around the Celtic Welsh times to the current era and native livestock and exhibitions.

over the past fifty years over 40 re-erected buildings from diverse places in Wales, buildings such as houses, a farm, a school and a chapel, along with 100 acre of park land and extremely good Workmen’s Institute.

There are number of workshops to demonstrate traditional skills, native breeds of farm animals can be seen within the fields and farmyards, and demonstrations of farming obligations take place daily. visitors benefit an perception into the wealthy history and way of life of Wales, and the Welsh language can be heard in each day use among craftsmen and interpreters.

You can find a galleries with exhibitions of dress, where you can enjoy the everyday lifestyles and farming implements however they also hold special exhibitions regularly.

Stunning garden display that surround the castle, just shows how beautiful this castle is, you can find an Italian garden which was laid out in 1902 however later restored in 2003, and a thyme garden.

The Museum was first commenced in 1946 following the donation of the castle and it’s land through the Earl of Plymouth, only after two years the Museum opened its doors to the public in 1948, named ‘Welsh Folk Museum’ then the English title modified the name to ‘Museum of Welsh Life’ and thereafter the name changed to what we call it now ‘St Fagans National History Museum’.
