The Jurassic Coast located on the English Channel Coast, stretches from the Exmouth in East Devon to the Studland Bay in Dorset, which is a distance of 96 miles.

The geological history spans over 185 million years from the Triassic, Jurassic and the Cretaceous periods.

Through out history the area has been a desert, shallow tropical sea and a Marsh, the fossilised remains of the various creatures which have lived in the area have been preserved in the rocks.

A Fossil Forest can be found in the Lulworth Cove area, within the Lyme Regis area they have found 71 different rock strata, each with it’s own species of ammonite.

Natural features seen on this stretch of coast include arches, stack rocks and pinnacles. In a few locations the sea has broken thru resistant rocks to provide coves with confined entrances
