The Gordon Highlanders museum celebrates the story of the Gordon Highlanders through history that spanned for 200 years, from the 1794 to 1994, the museum contains medals, uniforms, weapons and also more modern things like photographs and videos and guides which show you round and explain in great details of how “the finest regiment in the world, quoted by Winston Churchill, in 1990, came to be.

The award-winning attraction – which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year – has suffered an 80% drop in profits, despite a rise in visitor numbers, and tours last year which involved children from more than 50 schools.

The museum said it needed to raise £100,000 a year for the next three years to keep it going.

Newly-elected SNP councillor John Cooke asked Aberdeen City Council whether it could assist the Gordon Highlanders Museum which has launched an appeal to raise £300,000 in three years in a bid to stay open.

Cllr Cooke, whose grandfather served with the Gordon Highlanders, said: “I am delighted there has been unanimous support for my motion, which seeks to support the Gordon Highlanders in its hour of need.
