The African Continent

There are a total of 54 Independent countries in Africa and one transcontinental country, Egypt, which has a small territory in Asia, on the other side of the Suez Canal. Politically Egypt is a member of the African Union.

Africa is surrounded by water, The Mediterranean Sea separates Europe from Africa and the Suez Canal separates Africa from Asia, Southeast of Africa is surrounded by the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean from the West.

The largest country in Africa is Algeria, which occupies only 7% of the continent total area, the smallest nation is Seychelles.
