  1. The castle has been used as a military base, a prison and is currently the temporary office of the Prime minister of Norway.
  2. The fortress was first used in battle in 1308, when it was besieged by the Swedish duke Eric of Södermanland.
  3. No foreign enemy had captured the Akershus Castle until 1940, when the fortress was surrendered without combat to Nazi Froces, and remained under the occupation of Nazi Germany until 11th of May 1945.
  4. The first fortress is believed to have been built by King Haakon the Fifth, around the turn of the 14th century, and was used as a defense against a Swedish earl who hosted an unsuccessful attack in 1308.
